JS’s Story

JS had been staying at Tent City 4 for a while when he first began visiting Lake City Partners’ GLA Day Center. What started as occasional check-ins soon became a regular part of his routine as he sought resources to help turn his life around. After several months, JS met with the Center’s case manager who was determined to assist him in finding a stable place to live. They completed the King County Regional Homelessness Authority Coordinated Entry enrollment, and it quickly became clear that JS was an ideal candidate for 55+ housing.

Despite a lengthy wait and no immediate opportunities, hope was not lost. Months passed, and the search for the right place continued, until finally, a promising listing for a 55+ building surfaced. The staff at GLA Day Center didn’t waste any time — they nominated JS right away. The very next day, JS was selected.

With the approval came a whirlwind of paperwork, but with the team’s support, JS navigated the process smoothly. Just a few weeks later, he stood in front of a new door, his name on the lease, keys in hand.

It was when he stepped inside his new apartment that the reality hit. Walking through the apartment, JS realized this wasn’t just another place he would pass through. This was home. No more carrying his life in a backpack. No more uncertainty. It was a fresh start, and for the first time in a long time, JS felt something he hadn’t in years — security. Welcome home, JS!

A’s Story

A first arrived at Lake City Partners’ GLA Day Center in June 2024, one of the newest residents of the nearby Tent City 4. From the start, he stood out—his upbeat personality and knack for storytelling made him a beloved presence among staff and fellow guests of the Day Center. Whether reminiscing about his past or sharing his dreams for the future, A brought warmth and energy to every conversation.

As A grew more comfortable with the regular and stable routine of the Day Center, staff members asked if he would be open to a referral to the Aurora Oaks Enhanced Shelter—a step towards more stable housing. With the encouragement and support of the team, A navigated the referral process smoothly. Before long, he was accepted into Aurora Oaks, marking a significant turning point in his journey.

At Aurora Oaks, A finally had the space and support to focus on his well-being. Stabilizing both physically and emotionally, he made remarkable progress. Within weeks, the Client Services team helped him secure permanent housing—an achievement that once felt out of reach.

Originally from Florida, A had moved to Seattle years ago, drawn by his love for the city’s energy and beauty. His new home isn’t just a home—it’s a fresh start, filled with the hope and stability he has been searching for. Welcome home, A!

M and R’s Story

After an unexpected and abrupt end to their living situation, M and R found themselves displaced and uncertain of where to turn. With nowhere else to go, they sought refuge at Tent City 4 in Lake City. It was here, in the midst of their struggles that they first came to Lake City Partners’ GLA Day Center in October of 2024. That visit marked a turning point in their journey, as they were plugged in to a housing pathway to begin rebuilding their lives.

On that very first day, we completed a referral to our Aurora Oaks Enhanced Shelter. By December, we were able to offer them a shelter spot. In the background, our Client Services team worked tirelessly to connect them with additional resources to ensure that M and R had a solidly built path to get them from tent to front door.

Within just a few weeks, M and R were enrolled in the Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) program, an important step toward securing stability. After enduring the hardships of homelessness together for years, February 2025 finally brought the breakthrough the couple had been waiting for—permanent housing. This milestone marked not just the end of a long struggle, but the beginning of a hopeful new chapter in their lives. Congratulations, M and R! Welcome home!

E’s story

E was living in an abandoned house without running water or electricity for over a year in South King County. She reached out for help and was connected to the Recovery Navigators Program.

However, E did not fit the profile of someone RNP seeks to assist, as their focus is on those with addiction issues, so she was referred to Lake City Partners. We were able to move her into permanent housing on the Eastside (near where her family and support system is). She is in senior housing run by Imagine Housing to support her as her needs evolve.

This is the first permanent housing E (and Bella!) have had in over a decade, and it is thanks to the strong network of providers working together in King County. Congratulations, E! We are so glad you and Bella have a home.

K Story

First New Places Happy Faces of 2025!

K is an example of how the journey to housing can be long and challenging, but at Lake City Partners we stick with people from tent to front door.

Three years ago, K made contact with LCP. She had not had shelter since her husband passed in 2014 and due to her limitations and needs she was not able to come into shelter. One of our Community Outreach team members persisted in their steady support of K to meet her where she was at, and over time they were able to set K up with supportive services.

Finally, and just a few days ago, that team member – who is now a manager of our Client Services team – was able to move K into her very own apartment. This staff member extends a special thank you to all of the LCP staff who have supported K on this journey, and we all give K congratulations on her new home!

C’s Story

Final New Places, Happy Faces housing placement celebration of 2024!

C is a former shelter employee who struggled with housing insecurity and health issues. When unable to maintain employment, C ended up homeless and was referred to us many months later. While staying at our Aurora Oaks Enhanced Shelter, C became stabilized, healthy, and went back to work. He is moving into his new home today – on New Year’s Eve – and has a bright 2025 ahead of him!

Congratulations, C!

M’s Story

Permanent Housing Success Story

We are so grateful to be able to share this incredible story that not only showcases the resiliency of our clients but the agility of the partnerships we have built around us.

M and her partner arrived at Aurora Oaks last winter, after being homeless for many years. Unfortunately, their relationship ended and her partner left the shelter. This was a challenging time for M, but she persevered and always remained positive. It was inspiring to see someone facing so many challenges and barriers always retain her sunny spirits.

Finally, after several months, the Client Services team at LCP was able to connect M to permanent housing. Her application was complete and had final approval – she would finally have permanent housing.

Tragically, the night before M was to sign her lease and move into the apartment, she was shot multiple times. She suffered serious injuries that required life-saving surgery. Thankfully she survived and was able to return to the shelter.

However, M’s new apartment would not meet her new needs around ADA access, as she was now a wheelchair user. M took this news in stride, and LCP set to work with our partners on finding a new apartment. 24 hours after leaving the hospital and returning to the shelter, we helped secure a new, ADA-accommodating unit that included a healthcare clinic on the ground floor to further support her.

At LCP, we support clients through whatever is thrown at them. Step-by-step when their needs change, we change what we look for. We know we are getting someone a home, not just a place to stay. We are grateful were able to achieve this amazing outcome through our close partnerships with King County Regional Homelessness AuthorityDESC and Compass Housing Alliance. We are thankful for all your fast and nimble assistance in getting M a home that meets all her needs.

We are so glad we have been able to support you, M! Welcome home.
